Prosthodontics is one of the nine recognized specialties of the American Dental Association and is defined as the restoration and replacement of missing or deficient natural teeth. 

The methods of replacement may be fixed (bridges, implants) or removable (partial or complete dentures). The prosthodontist is specially trained to rehabilitate seriously compromised teeth, restoring them to their optimal functional and aesthetic health.
